拼 Chinese Reading Helper — Privacy Policy

What this extension does

Chinese Reading Helper shows pinyin, plays audio, and translates Chinese text that you explicitly highlight on web pages. It only acts on text you select — it does not read, collect, or transmit the rest of the pages you visit, your browsing history, or anything you don't highlight.

Data we process and store

• Highlighted text you translate is sent to our server and forwarded to DeepSeek (an AI translation provider). We store the phrase and its translation to operate and improve the service.
• Highlighted text you listen to is sent to Microsoft's text-to-speech service to generate the audio. We record that a listen occurred and the text spoken.
• An anonymous device identifier (a random ID, not derived from you or your hardware) is used to enforce the free monthly quota.
• If you sign in with Google: your Google account ID and email address, used to identify your account and subscription. We request only your email — no access to your contacts, Drive, Gmail, or anything else.
• If you subscribe: payments are handled entirely by Stripe. We never see or store your card details; we store only Stripe's customer reference.

What we never collect

• Your browsing history or the content of pages you visit
• Anything you don't explicitly highlight and act on
• Card or bank details (Stripe handles payment directly)
• If you use your own DeepSeek API key, your translations go directly from your browser to DeepSeek and never touch our servers at all.

Third parties

Selected text is shared with DeepSeek (translation) and Microsoft (audio synthesis) solely to provide the feature you invoked, subject to their privacy policies. Stripe processes payments. Google provides sign-in. Data is stored with Supabase (Postgres hosting). We do not sell data or share it with anyone else, and we do not use it for advertising.

Retention & deletion

Usage records are kept to operate the service and understand aggregate usage. To request deletion of your account and associated data, email us from the address you signed in with.
